Make a Mini Musical (K-5)

Could your students write the next Hamilton? Engage your students in poetry, spoken word, patter song and/or rap in this 15 weeks long residency that culminates in a 10-15 minute school day sharing of the students’ mini musical creation. Curriculum is based on classroom content areas and meets ELA Common Core and VAPA standards.

K-1 Students: Musical Adaptation of a Picture Book
Pick your students’ favorite picture book and enjoy as a professional teaching artist guides students through the creation of 10 minute mini musical. The residency will culminate in a school day sharing of their musical which will include, spoken dialog, dance and 1-2 songs with lyrics written by the students. Songs may be sung, spoken and/or rapped.

2-3 Students: Folktales
Pick an engaging folktale and a professional teaching artist will guide your students through the creation of 10 minute mini musical. The residency will culminate in a school day sharing of their musical which will include, spoken dialog, dance and 2-3 songs with lyrics written by the students. Songs may be sung, spoken and/or rapped.

4-5 Students: Social Studies
A professional teaching artist will help your students unleash their inner Hamilton through the creation of an original musical based on their social studies curriculum. The residency will culminate in a school day sharing of their musical which will include, spoken dialog, dance and 3 songs with lyrics written by the students. Songs may be sung, spoken and/or rapped.write lyrics for 2-3 songs.
